Barry McNealy is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and a product of the Birmingham City School System. McNealy has served as a full-time Education Assistant at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and as an Advance Placement United State History instructor for Parker High School, one of the historic Birmingham city schools. At the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, McNealy became known as a “Master Tour Guide.” His work with students at the local high school and the Birmingham Civil Rights makes him uniquely qualified for both senior and student step on guide service. Having been born and raised in Birmingham, McNealy can give your groups first hand knowledge of the city and how events in Birmingham influenced the world.

Joanne Bland is owner and operator of Journeys For the Soul, a receptive company based in Selma that provides Step On Guide and other services to the group tour market. Bland is able to give her groups first hand accounts of Selma’s civil rights events. In 1961, as an eight-year-old, she attended meetings presided over by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bland is a tour guide with a compelling personal story of civil rights activism. The young Bland marched on “Bloody Sunday” and “Turn Around Tuesday,” witnessing brutal beatings, shooting and hosing of fellow marchers by police By the time Bland was 11 years old, she had been jailed over 13 documented times. She provides groups with a fulfilling learning experience of the American Civil Rights and Civil War.
